Underwater on the 25th of December one big and friendly hawksbill turtle
decided to spend some 20 minutes with us. What a pleasure!!!!! After the
turtle took some air from the surface she followed us and we could
observe her closely while Claire, our amazing dive instructor and close
turtle-friend, was giving her instructions on how to avoid the fishermen
nets and to take care of her. A lot of turtles in the Caribbean sea find
their death because of increased fishing activities. More than 60% of
the turtles in les Saintes disappeared/ died in the last 3-4 years.
Dear Jana - What a special sighting to see on Christmas day.
ReplyDeleteWat een aparte Kerst, Jana !

@Een gezond, liefdevol 2014 !
Hi Jana, You dived and I skied in Christmas Day. I didn't have the pleasure of meeting a turtle friend though! Happy 2014.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing experience! I have only seen large turtles a few times in Australia, but I've NEVER swum with them!! Happy New Year!!
ReplyDeleteYou made my heart feel warm this morning Jana. I just adore these photos, especially the handshake or whatever they would call it in turtle language. You were under water on Christmas day and we were under several inches of ice and snow. I think the total accumulation since last Friday would be around 30 or a bit more, seeing as we got another 8 inches of snow last night. It certainly is a winter wonderland here today - again. A young friend of mine did a video of our ice storm which is on my post - I hope you will look at it, for you will see just what he captured and this is really how it is here. Mother Nature can be most captivating and destructive. I have not put any photos of the trees that fell on houses and cars - anyone that saw the news saw that. Instead I searched for the beauty. You bring great beauty to my desktop my dear. I am so fortunate to see life in your adventures and I truly thank you for that. Have a wonderful New Year, you and your family. Lilly
ReplyDeleteJana, wat leuke foto's weer. Ik wens je een fijne jaarwisseling en een voorspoedig 2014. Lieve groet, Dietmut
ReplyDeleteWow! What a Christmas treat that is! Looks so friendly indeed! and huge enough for a hug ;) I pray turtles would not get caught in fish nets and die unnaturally :)
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Jana! ♡

ReplyDeleteTONY BG - GREAT PHOTOS !!!!
ReplyDeleteYour first turtle picture is amazing. Probably the best underwater picture I have seen on your blog.
ReplyDeleteGreetings,
Filip
Oh, your moment with that turtle is just majestic! I've swam with turtles before but they're usually swimming fast away from me! You're lucky :) It's like the two of you are having a conversation. And very clear waters too.
