This year the famous Oktoberfest takes place for 180th
time in the beautiful Bavarian capital Munich! A friend of mine asked
me few days ago why Oktoberfest starts (and takes place mostly) in
September? Good question I have to say. But there is also a good
reason for it: the difficult Munich weather! In 1810 and the following
years the celebration took always place in the month of October (usually
in the middle of the month). However in 1829, four days after the
official opening, the first snow storm arrived and everything had to
close down! Since 1872 this big beer party has been moved to the last
10 days of September (+first October days) so one could enjoy better
weather& more pleasant temperatures....
This huge celebration is known of course to most of the visitors for the ...German beer! Every year during 2, 5 weeks (this year between 21.09-6.10.2013) around 6 millions liter of beer are sold&drunk there! However half of the surface at the fair ground is dedicated to having fun like a child: big wheel, carousels, rollercoasters...name it! These are all there waiting to be enjoyed the whole day&evening (recommended before the drinks:-) So this year I enjoyed the "Riesenrad" and one carousel-ride, which made me feel like a happy kid again;-)

You ARE a kid, jana! Spectacular shots from on high. Love all the vivid colors.
ReplyDeleteOh I thought beer was be all and end all of Oktoberfest? Haha.
ReplyDeleteBRILLIANT, BRILLIANT PHOTOS, JANA! The colors are so alive and... well, it just makes me want to go to Oktoberfest more! (Yes, even the non-beer side haha.)
We have our local version of Oktoberfest but I'm pretty sure it's nothing compared to your festivities!
Lovely colored photo´s Jana..... it´s a nice event in Oktober.
ReplyDeleteOh Jana, the colours in these photos are so inviting and it certainly looks like a true fun event. You look great on your swing in the sky. We just had our annual train robbery here for UNICEF, all dressed as cowboys, sheriffs n bandits, but I think I would change places with you for this wonderful event. You have FUN written all over your face :)
ReplyDeleteLeuk, Jana, vanuit een ander standpunt !
ReplyDeleteEn je lieve glimlach...
Lie(f)s.
I like very much German beer. I was in Munchen some years ago. Gorgeous shots, dear Jana and you are very beautiful. Kisses from Italy.
ReplyDeleteLike the picture of you in the flying seat. Looks crowded.
ReplyDeleteGreetings,
Filip
How fun this looks like fun! We are having an Octoberfest here this weekend and when we lived in the city we grew up in (several years ago) every year they had something similar where they would have German music, beer and great German food. By the end of the evening lots of people were singing and dancing on the tables! LOL It was a lot of fun.
ReplyDeletelove the festivity's lights and colors, look so much fun, and so love your smile
