Colours of Santorini...

White and blue are definitely the symbol of the Greek Cyclades...but while in Santorini last week i was just blown away by an unexpected magical rainbow of different colours, flavours and aromas all around the island.

Thira (the way the locals call most of the time their home) is an incredible mix of red, yellow, purple, violet and even sometimes some green:-)

As Santorini is an active volcano and more or less a rock in the Aegean sea one may choose between .... a red beach, a white beach and the normal beach (which is a black-sand-beach)...In June the thyme blossoms transfer the dry and dusty landscape in a painting of Monet!

The local veggies: small tomatoes (drying in the sun) and white eggplants, the yellow-orange nets of the fishermen and the yummy seafood, the over 4000 years old culture...sooo many things to enjoy and discover!

Sea and fishing...

The first time i wanted to see the sea in Britanny/Bretagne i could not believe how big the difference between low and high tide there is! At the Black sea coast, there are sometimes 5 cm, here it can be up 5-10 or even 20 meters....I had to walk once more than 5 minutes from the place where the water surface usually is (by high tide) till where it was by low tide.

I have discovered those cute fishermen houses by low tide in south Bretagne, in Saint Michel Chef Chef. They were looking so lonely on the beach, one abandoned one even reminded me of a spider while looking at it from down. Some people were using those hours when the water uncovers clams and other seafood to collect the dinner...

Colour of the sea...

Dutch seacoast in Medemblik

With the beginning of the summer I (as an ordinary Bulgarian) start to dream of sea...In the Netherlands its not always a question of water temperatures, but also of the colour of the sea water. It does not really invite u to go in (for proof see first picture). So even if I nowadays live less than 10 km to the first beach, I still dream of something a bit further away: the amazing sea colours one may find in the South of Europe...

Colour of sea in Sardinia Archipelago di maddalena

Some years ago I found the European paradise and the most beautiful beaches within Europe (and sometimes I do think they can even compete for the most beautiful in the world): it is called Sardinia and around 2-3 hours flight from the Netherlands...Just looking at this emerald sea colour is relaxing...Give it a try with the below images and imagine the smell of salt water and the light sea breeze:-)
