Algonquin Park: peak of autumn colours and meetings the inhabitants

While driving from Toronto to Montreal we decided to do a kind of detour and visit the huge Regional Park Algonquin, in the north of Ontario...The second of October 2012 was the day with the peak of autumn colours in the Park and was the day we spent there hiking and taking pictures:-) We were looking for mooses and bevers, but spotted birds, an otter and tons of squirrels and chipmunks...I also enjoyed the autumn leaves a lot!

Nico was really charmed by all the variety of different mushrooms and sponges and took tons of fantastic pics...While doing this he also spotted a specie from the common Garter snake (not dangerous for people). A small selection is below:

Hi, Jana, the first image made me feel warping into the middle of autumn at Algonquin Park. The snake gave me creeps. Other than that, all are fantastic! Thanks for the autumn report of your travel.

Oh, gosh - I love all the fall shots and so many great critter pics, too. The snake is so vivid and the heron looks like it's gazing at its reflection. Wonderful!

Gorgeous images! The colors are beautiful and makes me long for autumn. In Texas, we go straight from summer to winter with very little if any autumn. I really miss the color change. :)

The first image is stunning!

What a lovely collection Jana. LOVE your last, beautiful light and contrast - you must have been lying on the ground for this shot.

Excellent pictures Jana and Nico, I can not believe that you spotted this snake and how good this photo is.

Greetings,

thank you for all the nice words!
@Yoko: about the snake, it not a dangerous one (dangerous only for small animals);
@Koryn: its called panning, while you make the pic you zoomin/out; it gives pretty cool results;
@Pieces of sunshine: the last pic is accomplished by Nico without lying on the ground thanks to the very flexible screen of our Canon G12:-)

Wow, so beautiful autumn colors. You must have been very patient to spot so many creatures in hiding. I do not think I would be happy seeing a snake so close-up.
