Münchener Mittelalter-Weihnachtsmarkt/ Munich Middle-Age-Christmas market

For six years in a row on Wittelsbacher Platz (close to Odeonsplatz) one may visit (while living in the 21-st century) a Middle-Age-Christmas market....Its quiet a nice experience to sight the cute wooden houses and the way drinks and smoked fish are prepared "the old-fashined way"...Munich Christmas fairs go back to late medieval time. A "Saint-Nicolas-fair" is mentioned already back in 1410!
Nowadays one may enjoy he working craftsman and women and buy their art...Its a great Weihnachtsmarket, make sure to dress well, because if its not snowy and freezing, it might be raining+windy!

Next to clothes, spices, juwelery, one may also enjoy medieval spectacles and ancient music concerts on the weekends.

Christkindlmarkt am Marienplatz, Christmas market in the heart of Munich

Munich offers every year over 25 different Christmas markets, something for all different tastes! The "Cristkindlmarkt am Marienplatz" is however the oldest and definitely the most famous one...150 wooden houses create for a month Cristmas feeling in the heart of the city. Next to the stands with the mandatory warming up "Glühwein" and "Würstchen", one may gaze at candles, spices and Christmas decoration..
Every year one may find here the same stands: as the one with the bamboo angels for example. This year I have discovered a few new and interesting ones. A home made soap with sheep milk  from Austria or with olive oil from Italy: presented in very creative shapes and packaging (see first picture)...For the chocolate lovers there were all home-bricolage tools made out of...chocolate (a stand on Rindermarkt). Avoid the market after 18h as it gets too crowded and you might get a little be toosqueezed...however definitely worth a visit for all Weihnachtsmarkt-Liebhaber!

Paradise for "Weihnachtsmarkt"-lovers: Munich in December!!!!

Munich does not have only one, two or three Christmas markets...There are over 20 different "Weihnachtsmärkte" spread over the Bavarian capital every december....
This year I decided to do a weekend-tour and managed to visit some of them. The "Weihnachtsmarkt am Chinesichem Turm" is lost in the middle of the white Englischen Garten, a nice way to mix nature and city life while sipping on a warm cup smelling like cinnamon and ginger . Afterwards I paid also a visit to the "Middle-Age-ChristmasMarket" in the center of the city. This one takes you some hundred of years away. Here one could not only see people dressed as in the Middle Age/"Mittelalter" but also try some delicious specialties from this time!
The huge hand-made Middle-age-snowballs (sweets) were a nice eye-catcher....
If you like Christmas markets or if you have never visit one, go to Munich...But before this pack nicely, warmely and thick!!!Not only head, hands, but also your legs...because your toes are the part that all warm drinks do not really warm up;-)

Christmas is in the air...in Munich, Bavaria!

Munich Christmas lights

There is something magical in the colourful decoration which lighten up the shop windows and the rest of Munich as of end of November every year. Next to some 20 Christmas markets (the famous German "Weihnachtsmärkte") the smell of cinnamon and "Glühwein"(warm spices scented wine) help your nose and mind get into the mood for the coming Christms holidays.

Munich Christmas angels FünfHöfe

To be used with moderation though as the Christkindlmarkt on Marienplatz tends to get really crowded, but then some smaller and cozier like the Haidhausener weihnachtsmark offers a good alternative...

Munich Christmas lights

A walk in the evening in the pedestrian street (Neuhauser strasse and Theatiner strasse) is one of the best ways to discover and enjoy the beautiful lights perfomances turning the city in a real "Wintermärchen"/winter fairy tale:-)

Above you can enjoy the view at Marienplatz and it famous Christkindlmarkt from the restaurant Glockenspiel.
