Flowers in Dragalevski monastery, Vitosha mountain, Sofia/ Драгалевски манастир и цветя

Bleeding heart, Flowers in Dragalevski monastery
Dragalevski monastery is still working as a female monastery located in the Vitosha mountain a short drive from the center of Sofia. There are documents mentioning the monastery back to 1371-1393! This holy place was already existing in the first Bulgarian kingdom.... Nowadays a nice walk during the green forest takes you to the complex consisting of a church (dating from the 15th century) and few adminstartive building+appartments for the nuns. At the end of May the nuns were busy with the garden, tons of beautiful flowers were on display! The garden of the complex is open for visitors who may enjoy the flowers, fresh mountain water and light a candle in the little church. I had fun taking pictures of the colourful blossoms and plants, my mum had a lesson in macro photography with her new camera too:-)

Came to see your bleeding hearts. Is the photo yours or your mothers. It is nice when you can teach your mother something new,
The monastery and the gardens look very peaceful.

WOW! SO different to where I've been travelling downunder ... I didn't know there were female monasteries - but with a place like this, I'd be ALMOST tempted to join up myself!!

Hi Jana! The monastry looks more like some hotels I have stayed in! Anyway it's a nice place with well kept gardens also.

Hi Jana - Oh my, I didn't realize places such as these beautiful photos still existed. What a remarkable monastery and grounds. I am amazed I did not know about this. A wonderful place indeed to quietly roam, take photos, light a candle and truly enjoy the gardens, buildings and history. Well done and so nice to share the experience with your Mom.

For some reason, the third photo reminds me of Hansel and Gretel. You know, that part where they stumble across a cottage in the woods!

Hello to your Mum - she has a great daughter-teacher! I love bleeding hearts - they remind me of my own mother.
